North Central Illinois | I have a slope that I haven't tiled yet that has a similar, but less severe situation about 100 yards from the bottom of the slope. What I observed when digging holes to build a fence up the slope is that for most of the way up the slope there's a layer of sandy clay around 24-30" deep with a clay underneath. At the bottom of the slope the soil type changes and the sandy clay between the clay subsoil and the topsoil fades out. So it is easier for the water to flow down the slope through the sandy layer than to get even further down through the clay.
All that to say, your tile might be too deep, depending on your subsoil permeability. | |
