S. IL | We have some hill ground with seeps/springs in the hillsides and they run water most of the year till it gets very dry in the summer. One field in particular is drained on 40' centers across most of the slopes and the seeps run water up to the top of the ground, then downhill hundreds of feet over the tile lines. When the fields are in good shape to plant, these areas are slimy mud and the crop doesnt come up and weeds grow. We have dug down and checked a couple of 4" perforated black tiles, they were 3-4' deep and seem to be running OK and they are down hill to the 6" perforated main, which has a good grade down to the outlet. Hardly any silt in the bottom of the tile lines and these fields were all tiled in the last 12-15 years. These are silt loam soils. I have heard of soils that don't drain, any ideas how to dry these areas out? | |
