I have 13" truck auger with a 25hp electric motor sitting on a gas engine mount right in the middle of the undercarraige. Easy to get at and auger is well balanced. Motor on or near the gearbox makes the auger bottom heavy. I have a 40' auger with a 10hp motor mounted on the top end and it needs to be resting on something and is very unstable.
