| S660 here with the wide spread spreaders. 12 row cornhead, 35' MacDon. Wayyyy better spread than straight chopper.... These spreaders are a far cry from the old rubber belts that used to be on the 8820s. They're basically a powercast on steroids. Not to mention less moving parts and decreased hp requirements. We are no till/minimum till and I have seen zero reason that any residue needs to run through a chopper.
Granted, a chopper with powercast would be a good option as far as simple residue spread is concerned, but unnecessary for cost/maintenance/power requirements.
To answer OP, seems doubtful you could run powercast alone? I have a buddy that took chopper off and went with spreaders. That's doable, if you can find a set of spreaders. | |
