Wisconsin | The only problem with putting a tank under water is anchoring it down to keep from floating, as it will be partly full of water. Figure that out and you got it. Otherwise, you might not need a heated pump room, but sealed and insulated is enough with well water here. Pond water will be 39 or colder if you get ice on the pond, so colder than well water here, but you won't get as cold for as long.
The drawback of a submersible well pump is they have smaller openings so wouldn't handle trash. A heavy duty submersible septic pump might be a better fit, the drawback would be lower pressure. If the head is very low, and everything will be new, you might be able to design the plumbing big enough, and with a gravity storage tank buried in a hillside.
Overall, I'd lean towards a room with a jet pump, and an auxiliary priming method, either a small vacuum pump, or a glass catch jar and a tube to run to your gas vehicle for vacuum. That's assuming you can put the pump within 15' vertically of the water surface, if not, then a submersible well pump may be best. | |
