Back when I was a freshman in high school, 1968/69, I worked for an uncle's dad. He had a ford tractor for his "smaller" tractor that I'm wondering now what model it would have been. Thinking it might have need an 8something. The unique thing I remember was the gear shift lever moved up and down to various ranges, then you pushed it forward or backwards to access the gear in that position. Anybody tell me what models used that transmission configuration?
I learned to drive tractor on the Ford 960, so that seemed normal to me, the typical H pattern shifting was something new, altho we had 3 tractors like that so it didn’t take long. It was fun to watch neighbors try to drive that 960 and not be able to figure out the shifting….
I’m sure others have covered it, but the 100 series Fords from the mid 1950s had that type of shifter on the 5 speed transmission.
So any of the 600, 700, 800, or 900; 601, 701, 801, or 901 models with a 5 speed.
Then the 5 speed came with a single clutch, or a dual clutch which gave live pto. The single clutch would have been x5x models, the dual clutch would be a x6x model.
So my 960 tractor is the bigger engine and taller row crop frame (9); 5 speed live pto (6); and the older version (0).

If you can remember more details such as live pto, taller or shorter, bigger or smaller engine, etc we can narrow down the model more exactly.
650 through 961 you had one of the versions in there.
