South Central MN | From the sounds of it he is full till normally, but doing a shallow fall tillage pass is what I did when starting to move to less tillage, did some this year but put out some rye seed on those acres I worked. (Main goal was to make sprayer tracks a bit less rough, time will tell if I did much.) The rye did get off to a decent start, some have 2 leaves now but looks like the growing season is done, ground will start freezing up now with the cold weather setting in.
I've been surprised by how well soybeans, and even corn, can tolerate conditions that don't seem normal. Main thing with corn is the fertility program. Get it a good shot early and it can adapt better than it would without. Seems the later maturity beans adapt a bit better than the early ones here, noticed that this year with it being cool and wet early on. | |
