Got pulled over and got a ticket once out on Maui. Thought the exact same thing: what are they gonna do? Trust me, pay it and be glad. The down side is not good stuff. Glad I listened to someone out on Maui who knew the lengths they can go to to extract that pound of flesh.

A friend of mine worked for the State of Illinois in the same office as the CDL license road testers, I'm not sure exactly what his job was.

He's retired now, but several years ago he told a story about a phone call from a former Illinois resident who was trying to get a CDL license in his new state but was being denied (something showing in a background check but it wasn't specific).

Friend was trying to find the reason for Illinois blocking the license when the guy mentioned something about an unpaid ticket in Illinois.

"There's your problem, you'll have to pay the ticket, State of Illinois never forgets".

Guy was PO'ed, said he wouldn't pay and was going to hire an attorney.

Friend said something like: "I think that's the best thing for you to do", the phone call ended and he spent the rest of the day laughing about it.
