Gruver Tx | I’m pretty far north of you but have struggled with Notill cotton into covers. Rollypoly have thinned out a stand before I knew what was happening several times but that is not what you are asking. Covers seem to keep ground too cool with about 10 day planting window in May and most cotton done strip till under irrigation which has its own problems getting air out of strip with no rain. A friend in my area has had good success with a coulter injection rig in late winter. Cuts a path through residue and doesn’t dry out a strip like strip till. Very minimal disturbance and can run pretty fast and get ground covered. Can always plant close to fertilizer path or move over 4-5” if needed for moisture or firmness. I have seen Guys do this with strip till if strips too loose also.
The pictures are Notill cotton in between twin row rye.
The second is where rolypoly sowing clipped off cotton.
