| That second ward means you were doing a good job keeping the plants happy. You might have been able to keep that ear going if you watered a little more or added some late nitrogen. We have have a couple years where the second ear produces good kernels. We get plenty of rain those years and we used chicken litter which slowly releases nitrogen throw out the year. Last year we had corn produce a 18x 45 ear plus one about a third that size. on 34,000 pop dry land. That corn is the first where we had spots hit over 300 bushel. A couple years ago we had two ears going and then some western fires kicked up and blew smoke and haze our way. The corn absorbed that second ear even though we had ample moisture. The corn still did really well that year though. | |
