I was just going to say that. The military went from the .308 to .223 because they found if you killed an enemy, you had one less enemy. If you wound an enemy, you take not jut him, but someone to care for him out of the battle as well. If you research military snipers, the one shot one kill people, they use bigger cartriges.
Over 'here' the .223 is marginal for deer. Only certain loads are legal, and while it may be 'enough' with a good shot, a marginal shot will lead to a wounded animal. From experience here, I would suggest something with the power level of the .243 on up, unless you are doing short range shooting. The other thing I might add, is the bigger (and tougher) the Buck, the less effective a marginal cartridge like the .223 will be.
