Either way taxes will go up. If you get rid of the Department of Education for example, what is going to replace that revenue for the local schools? Guaranteed land taxes will increase? Lots of tax cuts at the Federal level will have to be replaced by the local level to fund things. That's my view anyway. Both sides get it wrong. I agree with repubs on some reforms at all levels, but some of the proposals are eyebrow raising. Same with the Dems and their tax proposals. Neither side gets it right and there is probably no perfect solution that will satisfy the majority. I've always liked the idea of a flat tax. But even that isn't perfect.
