Subject: Corn kernels on ground

WI
Have a variety of corn that had a lot of kernels on the ground prior to harvest. They just fell off of cob laying on ground under cob. Pull a cob and barely tough it and kernels fall off. Corn was 18-19% moisture. There was some anthracnose present. never seen anything like it before. Anyone ever seen it? Did it possibly die prior to black layer and cause this issue?
