yes with those darn steel post right . by the way are you the one who has those cheap ass insulators on a barb wire fence on 3?

Oh Ben even you should know there is a difference between a well built and tight 5 barb fence with hedge corners and some hedge line posts scattered in (example would be on Grandpa's) versus a shoddy 4 barb half-ass non tight fence on 3 north of Grandpa's.

Even worse, further north is a so called 5 strand HT electric fence with shoddy corners that is a nightmare. After experiencing that HT electric fence I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Which brings up the tale of 3 pastures. All rented. All with new fence about the same time. Probably within 3 to 5 years of each other so they are all about 10 to 12 years old.

The well built 5 barb requires zero maintenance.

The shoddy and loose 4 barb needs a hot wire to keep the calves from getting out. No adult cattle have got out of it that I can recall.

The HT has shorted out several times and the adult cattle can get out when that happens. Takes a lot more yearly maintenance and I have to buy electricity to make it work.

The key would be how well they are built. I've just never been around a well built electric fence.

I'll take a well built 5 barb fence any time. The original post wasn't even pictures of the best built one, but it is adequate and does the job.

We utilize electric fence in places. Hay stacks, corn stalks, help out old fences, etc. Usually temporary but it is job security that's for sure.
