| We grazed several winters on wheat stubble on drought years. I tell you what…..it better be free. If they look like hell coming of drought stress pasture, they are going to look a lot worse coming off 20/bu acre wheat stubble. Dad made the decisions back then. He was a firm believer in grazing year around. I’m the boss now and they won’t go through that again. Anything dryland should be free of charge and considered “weed control”. You provide fence and water.
The irrigated farmers here are wealthy and don’t want anything to do with the piss-ant cattle and sheep guys. If you can graze crop stubble on irrigated ground, that’s a whole different story.
