.223, even in the heavier bullets is pretty marginal on deer size game, especially at 200yds. If you're a good shot and the deer in your area (not sure where you're at) are pretty small bodied or you're hunting does, it will probably do the job but you'll be tracking them and not a great way to hunt. If you're going to use it, spend some money on quality ammo for it designed for big game.

If you're targeting bucks during the rut, they're bigger bodied and tougher and a .223 although legal just isn't doing them justice and not a high likelihood of a dead deer right now.

In the northern states I personally think a .243 WIN is about the smallest acceptable deer rifle but know plenty will come on here and say how more deer have been killed by .22 LR and .22 Mag and grandpa's .30-30 than anything else so I guess you should just go shoot deer with your .223! Plenty of dead deer at the hands of a good marksman and a .22-250 also.
