We installed 3 stockboss waterers in feedlot pens. Canadian version of a cobett. Energy free and all that garbage. I hate them. They are maybe 5 years old now. Constantly chopping ice and messing with valves. At some point I will tear them out and replace with heated Ritchie.

To your question, ours are ground level and they are definitely more issues with them getting dirty. New Ritchie installs here get a raised concrete ledge and a pipe guard that eliminates most of that.

We did put 2 other ones in a pasture/winter feed paddock situation. Those ones I don’t mind. Far from trouble free though.
