North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast | When I was a kid, a great uncle from California drove an almost new K20 Camper Special, with a cab over camper from Cali to Bessemer, AL for my great grandmothers 80th birthday.
I barely recall but apparently he had got himself in financial bind and was trying to borrow enough money to get back to California.
My dad, being the outcast inlaw in this story, bragged that he would buy the truck/camper so Uncle Boots could fly his family back home. Lots of adult arguing and possibly some drinking sent the kids outside.
Later on I found out that my mom’s sister called dad out on his bragging and ended up that he had to step up to his boastfulness and buy the rig. I have no idea what the price was but we went camping a lot the next few years!
Mom and dad fought about that truck rig almost daily till it finally sold.
I remember laying in the bunk over the cab looking out a big window while rolling down the highway rocking back and forth on the rough roads.
I was able to have good memories of that truck in spite of the way we got it. |
