S.C. Wisconsin
A few years ago we were ignorant on taking care of cast iron and our cast frying were so gross we thinking about throwing them out, but my wife went online and found a site were they tell you how to season cast iron. Since ours were so bad we used oven cleaner to take every off so we could start over. then we seasoned them with either butter of lard, never use vegetable oil. We used lard and our oven to season them can't recall the times and temp we used. But the biggest mistake we did in the past was to use vegetable oil for seasoning. We just use hot water and wipe out with paper towel now and they stay just great. I would do some searching on-line for the proper procedure which many of the post above mentioned.
