Subject: RE: Mary Newport and her N=1 Alzheimers story

First time I was around someone with alzheimers was early 1990s when we visited Dad's uncle and his wife in nursing home. She seemed to be living back in her childhood and he was practically normal. Then in about 1998 Mom's second brother started showing signs of it. Other than being a bit lazy, he was never overweight, quit smoking when he married in the early 1950s. In 2004 his oldest son died and my uncle was so far gone he was oblivious to what had happened, but he lived for 4 more years. My brother who is 21 months younger than me currently doesn't recognize his wife and they will be married 50 years at the end of this month. He did smoke for a period in his life though probably quit 15 years or more before he got alzheimers. He was never overweight, got lots of exercise (even now spends his time doing lots of walking) ate a normal diet (his wife obviously ate same food as him and doesn't have alzheimers). My sister is 30 months older than me, has type 2, and has been overweight a lot of her life, and thinks walking her dog around the block once a day is enough exercise shows no sign of alzheimers. Only change I have made lately to ward off dementia is to eat more fish.
I am getting tired of those who think they have the answers for alzheimers.
