Le Sueur VIA St.Thomas | Hello,
We have an 8 year old computer at work with that still runs our timeclock software. We paid a couple thousand dollars back then and it still works great! It connects to computers throught the building, has a database, etc. so it's complicarted. The company is still in business but wants big bucks to update the software and reinstall it in a new computer. We aren't too excited about spending the money (plus it's now subscription based) but we don't want the computer to die and leave us stranded.
My new thought is to clone the existing hard drive, buy a new Dell computer and pop the hard drive into the new computer. Will this work as easy as it sounds in my cartoon bubble? The new computer is no issue- if it doesn't work, the compurter will get put back to OEM and given to our bookkeeper. What about hardware? The current computer is W7 (I think). Will a W7 hard drive work in a new computer? If so, what cloning software should I buy?
good luck -jim |
