SC MN | I was diagnosed as a type 2 24 years ago. I had symptoms for 20 years before that. Medications didn't do much but discovered Dr. Bernstein's book and began a lower carb died for years with moderate success. No support from medical community. in 2020 I got covid19 and spent 6 days in hospital on steroids and other stuff. This totally blew my BS out of control. The good thing about that is I was given insulin. I had always wanted to try insulin but was never prescribed insulin until I got out of the hospital. I was assigned a GP as my original GP (10 yrs younger then me) had died a few years before this. I didn't agree with SAD diet my new fat GP ordered. would not prescribe more insulin unless I was obedient. New GP and she didn't like my diet but did like the results of low carb. Never could I get an insulin test. I finally sent a blood sample to a private lab and my fasting insulin was 3.8. According to Dr Ben Bikman I am not insulin resistant I just don't make enough insulin to be able to eat the SAD diet. I have been using insulin for 4 years and consider it a god send. Along with low carb and 5 to 10 units of insulin a day I can keep my BS around 100. I recently started with a new GP and he is open to discuss my treatment. For the last 2 years I have been using a Libre3 and now I have the Libre3plus. I was paying about $100 per unit so $200 per month. This GP prescribed the CGM so now I just got 6 units (3 months) for $80. They are very helpful but I still us the finger stick.
I am 79 yrs old and don't work as I did when younger but still active. Never weighted over 200 lbs and am 185 lbs now.
I call my self a stage 2 vegetarian. A cow eats grass, I eat the cow. Meat, cheese, and eggs. never hungry.
I thank John Burns for all the information he sends.
