That was a good one (first link). I did learn one thing about it that I didn't already know. You can change plans if you live in different parts of the country for significant amounts of time in each place. I didn't know that, although I don't currently see a need for us to do that.

I think he covered the plusses and the minuses pretty well. One thing he did not say that I think he should have is if you go to an Advantage Plan pay yourself the supplemental plan cost you saved by not having to buy the supplemental insurance. In other words pay yourself the insurance cost in a savings account. Then you have some money for any additional copay the plan may cost down the road.

One thing he did not point out. Our PPO will cover medical costs for us when we travel in a foreign country. We have to pay out of pocket, but they will reimburse us with proper documentation of the care. Will Medicare cover foreign medical care? I don't know but I didn't think so. Probably not important for most people but it is something on our mind as we travel a lot and a consideral amount of foreign travel. In fact enough that this last year we did take out annual travel insurance that includes medical coverage. I am sure it will be fun to collect on if we need it because it covers only what other insurance does not cover (no double dipping). So I am sure they will want us to turn it in to our PPO before they pay. But at least it gives us some peace of mind and does cover evacuation should we need a life flight out of some remote location.

If a person has lousy health and is lousy at managing money, Advantage plans are probably best avoided in my non medical opinion.
