Worked for a farmer from 8-12 grade, M with a 2ME mounted picker, if I remember right, hauled in with a 9N Ford pulling flare wagons without a hoist, in side Meyers elevator with the cradle lift. When I started farming in 81 helped my uncle pick corn with a pull type New Idea and used gravity wagons with a Meyers Elevator and used a WD 45 to haul in. When it got cold there wasn't a colder place on the farm than that corn crib alleyway when my Dad moved up here from Whitten in ‘55, couple years later he and a couple other good carpenters built a new double wide corn crib with 3 overhead bins all filled with a Meyer bucket elevator. That was pretty state of the art in 1958. His had nice sliding doors to close when the wind was howling from the north. Tore the whole thing down about 20 years ago, a grain bin sits in its place today. |
