Subject: RE: Tile water level control structures

Northern Indiana
In my opinion it’s no different than guys who have pumps shutting them off over the summer or winter. We have pumps but we don’t turn them off, they run year round on float switches. But I know of a lot of guys that only run their pumps when they need in the field or there is a big rain event. My personal opinion is that tile doesn’t dry out ground, it just takes excess water that the soil can’t hold so we always let them flow. If it gets wet we don’t have over saturated soils with low oxygen levels for the roots and if it’s dry the soil will fill up before the tile starts taking excess water away
