Subject: Getting dialed in- Old school .54 Hawken percussion

Having some combine issues waiting for parts come in, so thought I’d use this beautiful day to test out the old Hawken. As I get older, I find myself wanting a more challenging, demanding hunt, so I mothballed my Smokeless Savage muzzleloader with a Leoplod VXL 50mm 4-16 power scope, with is truly a 300 yard capable rifle, in favor of black powder and patched round balls. Williams peep sight works really well. Getting an average of 1850 fps with 77 grains of powder. Should provide plenty of knockdown power at the ranges I’m comfortable with, try for inside of 75 yards. Our early muzzleloader season starts in about 2 weeks.
