Central North Carolina | Thanks Jim, I appreciate your willingness to talk numbers, a lot of us have various ideas about the alternate ways to farm but few take the time to actually put the numbers on paper and analyze things.
The point is that sometime prices send us messages to do something different and jim is doing something. Why everyone has to nitpick i don't get.
One thing I also consider is the opportunity cost. For me raising grass fed freezer beef means running fewer head per year. Here we have lower quality forage than you but for more months of the year. Instead of feeding out calves on grass i buy additional 450 lbs stockers and run them till the grass runs out and selling as 800-900 lbs. Moreover dealing with people and customers sux, life is too short.
