Subject: RE: Solar vs corn

Whitewater, WI
Running a hog operation is still agriculture which is what the land is zoned for and a lot of farms still have both livestock and rowcrop operations. I grew up on a hog farm until we sold them in 1997 so I understand the smell from them, no different than any other livestock, thats why we live in the country. We're not putting beef, hog, or poultry operations in urban areas so why are solar arrays ok in ours? It's interesting that you say they are an eye sore but my opinion of a solar array being an eye sore in the country is likely going to be discounted by you because we have a difference of opinion. I wouldn't want to look at a solar array, power plant, or any other industrial facility by my home. Thats why I live here. I do not agree that livestock and farmland operations in the U.S. should be foreign owned. Contracts however are a tough one only because we live in a global economy and everything is imported or exported somewhere. If everything could stay here with that would be great and would help the crop basis as well but not practical. I have to ask, and I'm not trying to be critical of you, but what region are you from? I only ask because I've never heard the term "hog confinements". Everything here is just a *whatever animal*barn. If you have signed up I wish you the best. I had talked to a lawyer about the proposals we get mailed constantly and his opinion was to not sign a solar contract under any circumstances. Contract aspects that are too vauge to allow certainty during the lifetime of them. Hopefully yours works out.
