NE IL | I had a very long talk with a solar rep who is pushing them in our area. Pretty much just talked in circles but he mentioned the biggest benefit/interest to solar is in the construction. Everyone gets their tax breaks/subsidy/kickback for construction. When its all built that's great but will these leases stand the test of time. He said heck after 15 years if it doesn't work out just put the ground back into production, he honestly didn't push alot of confidence these leases would last 30 years. They always throw out alot of promises that aren't even close to being kept. I know one solar project close by that doesn't even have a single weed growing under the panels much less grass after two years as the ground was so destroyed from construction. I wouldn't hold your breath to have a prairie with wildflowers under them. One theory the coffee shop likes is when they have the acres they want they will put these shell companies out of business then come back and renegotiate the lease substantially less.
Its obviously emotional but like ethanol when a product is pushed by policy not actual market supply/demand, it always has an end date. | |
