Subject: RE: Solar vs corn

Northeast Indiana
The net CO2 reduction from corn and soybeans is ZERO or even negative. Much more negative when you include the fuel and resources used to plant, maintain, harvest, and process the crops. I'm not saying solar is great for the environment, and I'm not saying it matters either way, but row crops aren't a net carbon sequester ordeal. The real issue here is property rights, and people's freedom to do with their land as they choose. No, I'm not signed up for solar, but if we keeping telling others what they can do with their land, its only going to get worse and the next targets by the local communities will be livestock operations and many farming practices that most of the corn belt practice. Should there be the federal incentives for solar panels? I say no, but one way to look at it is that at least some of that wasted government money is coming back to your community. Ideally government would get out of subsidizing almost everything, but I don't see that happening any time soon, unfortunately.
