| Start off by reinstating the assault rifle ban that was sunsetted 20 years ago. Statistically it has been proven an effective tool.
the risk of a person in the U.S. dying in a mass shooting was 70% lower during the period in which the assault weapons ban was active https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2022/06/15/did-the-assault-weapons-ba...
Also red flag laws should be put in place. It is ludicrous to think that law enforcement knows about many of potential shooters, and yet cannot take away the guns. I feel that even though potentially a citizen could lose access to guns unjustly, that is a small price to pay to legitimately get guns out of a dangerous person’s hands
One nation to look at gun violence before and after gun control measures were taken is Australia.
Conclusions: Australia’s 1996 gun law reforms were followed by more than a decade free of fatal mass shootings, and accelerated declines in firearm deaths, particularly suicides. Total homicide rates followed the same pattern. Removing large numbers of rapid-firing firearms from civilians may be an effective way of reducing mass shootings
Second ammendment was put in constitution so that citizens could form a well regulated militia. I fail to see how owning of guns today falls in that category.
But I don’t feel that either of the gun control measures will ever take place since a large percentage of the country believes school shootings and gun violence are a fact of life and we just need to get over the violence. Thoughts and prayers will continue to be our remedy to school shootings and gun violence
