NW IL | I agree with Blustery on the need to truck things. We almost always end up sending some loads 1.5hr away into Wisconsin. There's about 5 or 6 places taking organic crops within about an 1-2hr of our place. We have contracted with a couple companies that come and take the grain into Indiana for milling, or Chicago for shipping containers.
Yes, current prices have been down since... about middle of last year? Closest bids are ~$6.50 on corn and ~$19 on beans. Last fall prices off the combine were similar. We sold all our wheat into the non-organic milling market this year and dropped sunflowers from the rotation because the price was awful.
Organic milk is still holding up so that's good at least. It would be nice if non-organic wasn't so low. We're transitioning a lot of acres and the loss from them will hammer the balance sheet the next 2 years.
