Regardless, we can't start charging parents for crimes their kids commit. Were does the line get drawn, if your 16 year old kills someone with a car you bought for yourself, are you now equally liable for that persons death? That's exactly what the Michigan parents, and now the guy in Georgia are being accused of.
You are civilly responsible for a minor's damage caused by an automobile. Other damage done by a minor is limited to the small claims limit, currently $10k, in WI. So if your minor child crashes your car and causes $10 million in damage, you're responsible. But if he lights a fire that gets out of control and causes $10m in damages, you're responsible for $10k max, in Wi. I don't know what laws apply to parents criminal liability for children's actions, there are plenty of cases of children with a history of crashes that go on to kill or injure someone, who SHOULD have the parents held responsible, for supplying a car to someone with very clear pattern of irresponsibility. The same should apply to guns. No way of knowing if this applies in this case or not, other than the pictures of an elderly father and a long haired son.
