We do about 400+ bales for our own use plus some for neighbors 3ach year. We mow and rake, one neighbor just rakes, another just has us run around and get what the combine dropped (no chopping head).

Mowing compared to nothing is a 4x difference in bales per acre here with 200+ bu corn. But you'll take almost all your residue off.

Chopping head or even yetter devastators will make a difference.
