BASS is not an off-brand, and BASS does not sell off-patent hybrids. BASS is not reliant on the leftover genetics released by the big companies for other brands to use.

BASS has a breeding program that goes back to 2005, unique & proprietary breeding methods, and runs just as fast as doubled-haploid programs but with more opportunity for agronomic selection. The breeding group tests over 5,000 brand new hybrids every year (conservatively). The hybrids from the big national companies are the standards used in the yield trials for comparison.

A hybrid does not get released into the BASS lineup if it cannot beat a “big dog” hybrid.

I happen to know a bit about breeding corn inbreds, can you explain how a conventional breeding program is "just as fast" as double haploid programs? I have serious doubts about your claims but who knows maybe I missed something over the years.
