| Not illegal. But functions like a pyramid/ponzi scheme. There are lots of legal pyramid schemes.
When you enter a MUD deal you buy those machines, but you can’t sell them to anyone else other than Deere for a specified number of years. Otherwise the large operator could just skip the trade in phase and go direct to the second owner and make money, or put it on auction and make money. But now there aren’t enough small operators that can afford the machines, and guess who gets to hold the bag? It’s not Deere.
