Illinois Heartland
I worked at IDOT for 37 years and was in charge of Highway Maintenance Operations the last 15. We tried about every type of contraption for weed eating and brush cutting, especially around metal guardrail posts which eats string trimmer line instantly.

The 2 setups they liked the best were the Stihl metal Tri-blade for brush cutting and the quick change plastic fingers for weeds around metal posts.

Couple of tips using them. You better hold on using the metal Tri blade as it will take you for a ride. We tried the wide 2 handled big Stihl weed trimmers and the guys hated using them. We bought parts to convert them back to a D handle type as they are impossible to control when you are in the heavy stuff.

For the plastic fingers, soak them in a bucket of water overnight before using them and keep them in a sealed bag in your back pocket for spares to change out. No joke, it makes a big difference and they last a long time.
