You need a hybrid inverter with a battery and an ATS (Automatic transfer switch) to accomplish what you are trying to do.
Like another poster commented, his solar panel produced power when he used his generator.
A on-grid inverter needs to sense voltage in order to produce. This can come from the grid, or a generator. It's a built in safety feature to protect the linemen. If it loses grid voltage, it shuts down. No ATS needed.
Or if you put on an ATS, you can use a generator to "form the grid" voltage. |
