Northwest IL | The great thing about farming is we have communication and know a lot of great people. We know those that travel and come in contact with lots of farmers and others involved in farming outside our immediate area. The people I know and trust have accessed the areas of crops as follows. Illinois had some issues early with weather that caused not great planting conditions in places. Then too much rain in June and July in parts of the state. Road side tour take away in our area would be all the yellow corn from to much water. Overall very good Illinois crop, possibly a record but not 225 record. Wisconsin is a mess from to much water. The southwest and southern area not as much and those are good producing areas. Overall less than last year. Iowa is a mixed bag. The main growing area north of highway 20, to much water. Many guys say from about Dyersville west to many holes and not great corn that way. Route 30 decent corn gets more uneven towards Ames and yellow areas that way too. Eastern side of Iowa is good to help make up bushels. Overall guys thinking maybe on par with last years crop or a tad less even, depends on how they figure some of the holes and flooded acres. Minnesota same boat along 90 just to much rain. Best producing area hardest hit and overall will be down on yield. South Dakota down due the flooded area. Not much info on other states other than had a guy Ohio looked decent but know the south might be a touch dry. All said it could still be a record crop but more like last years number not the 183. Sorry it got long but is this pretty accurate on info you guys have seen for yourself or heard from the people you trust? | |
