If you have extended periods of sub zero temps in the Winter, even though they are dormant, some fruit trees buds will die off.


Peaches are a gamble just to survive in the North, nectarines flower early so are a gamble if they'll fruit. Not that sure about cherries, assuming they're sour cherries they shouldn't have had a problem last winter. Apple and pear buds should survive -40, some varieties at least.
