Not so much a high pH issue as 7-8 is common the absolute killer, as in dead spots is EC or soluble salts, saline levels over 1 is usually dead beans but corn will survive it. High lime is naturally occurring and is not controllable although tile helps get rid of excess water. Where tile makes a huge difference is saline areas we have stripes where beans are green over tile and dead or yellow in between.
