Malta, Illinois | I did some scouting today in corn fields and was fairly pleased with what I saw. Extremely good plant health with little or no evidence of disease. Has had rain at the right time for the most part. Stands are fairly even with average standing population of 35,000. The kernel depth appears to be average or most likely above. Has enough moisture to finish grain fill pretty well. I am expecting good grain quality with heavy kernels. We'll know a lot more in a month or month and a half depending on weather from here on out.
Edit: Sorry the pictures did not load. I'm am pretty close to computer illiterate. I attempted to post pics of some ears I picked today. Average about 17x40 for kernels around and length and nice kernel depth.
