So there are hundreds of sales pitches with products and claims of great things that will happen if you use them.
Spoiler alert, non of them work. I’m talking about fancy “digesters” magic sauces and even liquid nitrogen as well.
You need heat, moisture and good ole fashioned soil biology. As yall prolly know I live in Virginia and we have fairly warm winters and my ground eats corn residue like you wouldn’t believe. My ground never freezes and we get rain pretty much all year, it almost never snows here.
All my land is no till and the corn stalks and leaves just melt when they hit the ground. The only thing you’ll see is pieces of corn cob and when you pick them up it is hollow and crumbles in your hand.
That being said, I’m not bragging and not trying to tell anyone else how to farm and not bashing anybody that makes or sells them. I’m sure someone will invent one at some point.
It’s just my experience so far.
Our experiences are different. We have tried a couple in replicated trials. It won't make things magically disappear like suggested by the salesman. Here is about a 5 bushel gain across multiple product and years. So at three dollar corn, it's a wash.
