South Central MN
Several years ago put up a fence around the garden, the top wire was 8' off the ground with alternating hot/ground wires spaced about 8-10" apart, once in a while they got in but typically did when running after nearly getting hit on the highway that runs by the place. They stay out even when it isn't plugged in, but going to be fixing it up a bit for next year since the wires have sagged and some trees are touching it now.
