Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251
I just early weaned 140 lightweight calves off cows that needed culling. They ranged from 200 to 300 pounds. I normally would have left them on momma much longer, but reasoned the following:

1. Sell before market drops?
2. Sell before anything dies?
3. Sell before most guys cull?
4. Buy 3rd period replacements

I'm glad I did. Heifers topped at $5.01, steers will leave in a week or so. $1200.00 average for heifers suits me for locking in a profit.
Moolah enabled me to buy some nice young cows that will calve this fall, so getting a future calf sale six months sooner. Your cull cows if in good flesh will go a long way at today's prices towards paying for a nice replacement.
