Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | As I mentioned in my email, older Raven flow meters had this warning on them. About 20 years ago, the circuitry was changed on the smaller ones at least to "live on" 5-16 volts. Possibly your flow meter is extremely old or maybe the 3" model cannot tolerate a higher voltage.
There are several ways around this. Possibly 5 volts is available from the controller itself on a different pin.
A method to reduce the voltage from 12V to 5 V would be use a 5 volt Zener diode and resistor.
Another device is a "buck" convertor. I have used these with electronic projects where parts needed 12V and other parts only 5V. Here's a link to one. 12 Volts and ground are connected to one end and the adjustable output comes out the other end. The voltage is adjusted with a small screw on the board. Some soldering is involved.
