Have been running 2 for the reasons you mention. Don’t ever catch them fighting. The smallest group they are on is 15.
If you can push your calving window back/ahead from average in your area renting is going to be much more economical. First year I watched the bulls for ~8 months vs paying rent. Lots of guys are happy to have 0 bulls around at calving time.
