Northeast Missouri | The wheat straw was pretty dry when you baled it? If so, then there's not enough moisture in the surface to matter, as the moisture will move/equalize unless it is very wet.
Best is to wrap with black plastic (better than white for anything dry), and orient your row of bales north/south so the sun hits both sides during the day. Heat of the sun on black plastic will drive the moisture away from the surface and into the bale, equalizing it.
Even if you're wrapping with white or any light color, dry stuff should be oriented north/south--you'll still get some of that surface heating effect. If not, even dry hay that's oriented east/west may get "snotty"/mold-ish on the north side of the bale, between the hay and the plastic. | |
