My experience...If you are normally spraying at VT regardless of disease keep doing it. Two years ago we sprayed at VT and the week before labor day started seeing a little tar spot(had to look hard for it) 5 days later it was easy to find. Called the plane in for a second app of fungicide and sprayed every acre. We were still at least 10 days away from black layer at that point. You could see all the places that the plane didn't get or flew wide. That corn had dies prematurely and easily 15-20 bushel less than that around it.

We have already sprayed all our corn acres at VT this year once and are expecting/planning on a second app also. We are already seeing some tar spot showing up in fields that have been sprayed. We are keeping a eye on it and if it starts to get worse will call in the plane.
