E. Kansas | Good ol' American ingenuity and high tech of the time was on full display 55 years ago on this day, July 20, 1969. On that evening (central daylight time), the response to President JFK's speech in 1962 when he made the challenge to put a man on the moon and return him safely to earth before 1970, was rapidly taking place and being watched by millions on TV as it happened. I remember very well watching it happen, even though just being a young kid.
The Eagle has landed on the moon, carrying Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. In a short while, Neil Armstrong would be the first to climb down the ladder of the Eagle and step foot on the moon, with Buzz Aldrin following. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
